Right now, youth programs are being cut, public schools are in crisis, and peoples’ trust in their own government is at an all time low. If our district is going to receive any support from the state in the coming years, we need trusted and experienced leadership in the State Senate, free of distraction.
-Maryam
Maryam Khan is a mother, educator, and for the past four years a tireless advocate for working families in the Connecticut State Legislature. Her public service is grounded in a simple belief: no one should be forced to struggle so private interests can profit.
Maryam’s career has centered on nurturing and educating children. She began as a special education teacher, then served on the Windsor Board of Education, and now chairs the Legislature’s Special Education Committee. In that role, she led the passage of landmark legislation delivering historic investments in special education, expanding access to services, and strengthening cost controls and transparency for families and communities.
The first Muslim elected to the Connecticut House of Representatives and the second to the General Assembly, Maryam is a Pakistani-born immigrant deeply committed to defending democracy and amplifying the voices of those too often left unheard.
Currently serving as an Assistant Majority Whip for House Democrats, Rep. Khan sits on the Judiciary, Education, and Appropriations Committees. She has also been a leader on equitable tax policy, criminal justice reform, youth programming, and support for workers and small businesses.
